What to Wear in Barcelona in March

As March draws to a close we take a look back at the month’s weather and more importantly, at what we’ve been wearing. March sees the transition from winter to spring and the changeable weather normally reflects this. This year has been no exception.

The first of March was sunny with maximum temperatures of around 20 degrees Centigrade. On the second the weather took a turn for the worse and the next two weeks were windy and rainy. Since then the weather has improved and is now spring-like.

I’m a regular visitor to the tripadvisor barcelona travel forum. Two weeks ago someone asked what the weather was like and what they should pack for their upcoming visit to Barcelona. I think my answer pretty much sums thing up:

It’s been really mixed lately. Today I wore a warm jacket in the morning and in the afternoon just a jumper and jeans. Yesterday it rained and the day before was t-shirt weather at midday – I even saw some tourists in shorts!!

What to Wear in Barcelona in March

This month I’ve generally been wearing my fleece lined gore-tex jacket, a jumper and jeans. At midday it’s often been OK to go out without the jacket, saying that it’s also rained quite a lot. There have been three or four days when it’s been T shirt weather at midday, I’ve even seen some tourists wearing shorts. I’ve worn sunglasses 5 or 6 times this month.

My advice for March is to be prepared for anything and dress in layers. The weather changes from day to day, some years I’ve been sunburnt in March but it often rains and in 2010 it even snowed (As you can see in this excellent music video by local band Luz Verde).

If you enjoyed the video you can download Luz Verde’s latest album from their website here
