Every year, approximately fifty million passengers pass through Barcelona Airport. While most of them head straight to the city centre, the airport also serves as an entry point for other popular destinations such as Sitges, Girona and the Costa Brava.
Many travellers who arrive at Barcelona Airport continue their journey to their final destination by bus or coach, and there are bus stops at both terminals.
This post includes information about the majority of bus and coach services departing from Barcelona airport and includes essential information, including where the bus stops are located, how to get there and where to purchase tickets.
In an attempt to make things as comprehensive and user-friendly as possible, I’ve organized the post into two main sections, one for each terminal. If anything’s unclear, if you think that I’ve missed something, or if you need some help, please feel free to leave a comment at the end of the post, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
Buses & coaches from Barcelona Airport Terminal 1
Buses and coaches from Terminal One depart from a bus station located just outside the terminal building, one level down from the arrivals hall.
How to get to the bus station at Terminal 1
After you collect your luggage and pass through security, you’ll come out into a large foyer, where there’s a ramp leading down to the taxi rank directly in front of you. To the left of the ramp, you’ll see a self-service snack bar named Go Natural.
To get to the bus station, you walk between the taxi rank and the snack bar. Just after you pass the snack bar, and before you come to the rental car desks, you’ll see a large brown sign with pictograms directing you to the exit, car park, rental cars, hotel shuttles, metro station and bus station.
On either side of this sign, there are automatic sliding doors which lead to the escalator and lift leading down to the bus station (as shown in the photo at the start of this post.
Both sets of doors lead to an escalator and an elevator which take you down to the bus station. The doors to the right lead directly to the shuttle bus to terminal two, followed by the Aerobús stop and then the bus station. The door to the left of the corridor leads out between the Aerobus stop and the bus station. At the end of the day, they’re only a few metres apart, and it doesn’t really matter which you choose.
Free shuttle service between terminals
Located at the bottom of the right-hand escalator, the shuttle buses depart every five minutes and take approximately six minutes to get to Terminal Two.
This is the bus which you should take if you plan to catch the train to Barcelona city centre. When planning your journey, you should allow at least twenty minutes to complete the transfer. It takes five minutes to walk from arrivals to the bus stop, five minutes waiting time, six minutes on the bus and then another five minutes to walk from the bus stop at Terminal Two to the train station.
Aerobús: Express bus to the city centre
The Aerobús is an express bus service to the city centre. The service operates twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The buses are easily recognized by their distinctive blue colour scheme and are equipped with air conditioning, wifi and USB charging points.
The journey to the city centre takes approximately thirty minutes, and buses depart from Terminal 1 every five minutes throughout the day, dropping to every ten minutes after ten pm and every twenty minutes between midnight and five am.
Tickets can be purchased from machines located next to the bus stop (see photo below) or online in advance. You can save money by purchasing a return ticket.
The bus stops for the Aerobús, and the free shuttle bus are both alongside a road which passes underneath the airport terminal buildings. Behind them, there’s a small bus station with twelve platforms or bays divided into two sections:
- Bays 1 to 6: Buses to Barcelona metropolitan area.
- Bays 7 to 19: Intercity and long-distance coaches.
Bays 1 to 6: Buses to Barcelona and the metropolitan area
Bays 1 to 6 are a series of bus stops alongside a central platform with a glass shelter. Each bus stop has a sign with the route numbers of the buses which stop at it. Some of the signposts also display the bus timetables, and there are route maps mounted on the central glass bus shelter.
Buses to Barcelona and the metropolitan area are operated by the TMB (Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona) and a few other local bus companies.
Travel passes such as the Hola Barcelona Travel Card and the T-casual cannot be purchased at the bus station.
Buses operated by the TMB are fitted with NFC terminals located inside the bus, near the front doors, where you can purchase a single ticket.
If you want to save some money by using a travel pass, you will either have to purchase it online or at the Airport Metro station. There’s more information about Barcelona tourist passes and travel cards in this post.
Bus routes with stops located on the central platform include:
- L77: Sant Joan Despí
- PR1: El Prat de Llobregat
- 46: Barcelona: Plaça d’Espanya
- N17: Barcelona: Plaça de Catalunya (Night bus)
- N18: Barcelona: Plaça de Catalunya (Night bus)
- L99: Casteldefells
Bays 7 to 12: Intercity buses and coaches
As you walk towards the central bus platforms, there’s a zebra crossing to your right, which takes you to bays 7 to 12, which is where intercity coaches depart from. Unlike the central platform, where each route has an allocated stop, buses and coaches operating the intercity routes may depart from any of the six bays (7 to 12).
Companies which operate intercity coach routes from Barcelona Airport Terminal 1:
All of the companies, with the exception of Direct Bus, have ticket machines near the bus bays, where you can purchase tickets. The ticket machines accept credit cards, and most of them accept contactless payments. You can also purchase tickets in advance from the individual company websites.

Shared transfer services from Terminals 1 and 2
In addition to scheduled bus and coach services, local company Moventis operate a shared transfer service from Barcelona airport to popular destinations nearby.
The service, which only costs slightly more than a regular bus ticket, has three main advantages:
- Flexible schedule, adapted to fit your arrival time.
- Goes directly to the town where you are staying, with no intermediate stops.
- Drops you outside your hotel or at a dropoff point nearby.
Unlike regular bus and coach services, which run to a fixed timetable, Moventis schedules transfers according to their customers’ arrival times. To ensure minimal delays, they adapt the type of vehicle used based on demand. At peak times, they use luxury coaches, and during less busy periods, they use air-conditioned minibuses.
When you book your transfer, you indicate your flight time and which hotel you are staying in. Upon arrival at Barcelona Airport, you are met by a Moventis staff member or agent who takes you to your vehicle.
Moventis run shared transfers to the following destinations:
- Barcelona city centre
- Barcelona cruise ship terminals
- Calella
- Lloret de Mar
- Salou
- Tossa de Mar
- And more…
Buses & coaches from Barcelona Airport Terminal 2
Terminal Two is divided into three sections: T2A, T2B and T2C, which are located, one immediately after the other, alongside a wide service road. Most airlines arrive and depart from terminal T2B, with the exception of EasyJet, which uses T2C. Both the arrivals hall and the check-in desks are located on the ground floor of the terminal buildings.
The baggage carrousels and customs at terminal T2B are located at the end of the building nearest to T2C. At the other end of the building, nearest to T2A, there is a covered bridge which leads to the airport metro and train stations.
The bus stops at Terminal 2 are located outside T2B and alongside the road leading to T2C.
How to get to the bus station at Terminal 2
Once you have retrieved your luggage and cleared customs, you will proceed through a set of sliding doors that will take you to the main lobby area. From there, you will come to a large revolving door that leads outside the terminal building where the bus stops are located.
As you exit the baggage reclaims area, you will see a large open-plan self-service restaurant called EAT straight in front of you. The revolving doors are to the left of the restaurant.
Once outside the building, if you look to your left, you will see the covered bridge which leads to the train and metro stations. To your right are the taxi rank and the road leading to terminal T2C.
If you are flying with EasyJet, you will exit near the taxi ranks at T2C. The bus stops are past the small taxi rank alongside the road leading to Terminal 2B.
Free shuttle service between terminals
The free shuttle bus between airport terminals has two stops at Terminal T2. One is located next to the bridge, which leads to the train and metro stations. The other is outside terminal T2C.
This is the bus which you take if you have travelled to the airport by train and your flight leaves from terminal T1 or if you will be catching an intercity bus which departs from the bus station at Terminal 1. You could also use this bus to travel from terminal T2B to T2C, although, by the time you’ve walked to the bus stop and waited for the bus, it would be quicker to walk to T2C.
Buses depart every five minutes and take approximately twelve minutes to get to Terminal 1.
Aerobús: Express bus to the city centre
The Aerobús is an express bus service to the city centre. The service operates twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The buses are easily recognized by their distinctive blue colour scheme and are equipped with air conditioning, wifi and USB charging points.
The journey to the city centre takes approximately thirty minutes, and buses depart from Terminal 2 every ten minutes throughout the day, dropping to every twenty from eleven pm to five thirty am.
There are two Aerobús stops at Terminal 2. The first is located outside section T2B, shortly before the covered bridge, which leads to the train and metro stations and is to your left as you exit the terminal building through the revolving doors mentioned above. The other Aerobús stop at Terminal 2 is on the road outside section T2C.
Tickets can be purchased from machines at the bus stops (see photo below) or online in advance. You can save time and money by purchasing a return ticket.
