If you are staying in Barcelona for more than a week, or are visiting the city as part of a more extended trip, then chances are, you’ll need to find somewhere to wash your clothes. Doing laundry when travelling has the advantage that it allows you to carry less luggage, but it does require some planning.
There are several options available for doing laundry in Barcelona. Your choice will largely depend on your travel style, budget and whether you are staying in a hotel, hostel or apartment.
This post looks at all the options available for washing laundry in Barcelona. From self-service launderettes to hotel laundry services, hand washing to dry-cleaning. I’ve also included lists of laundrettes and dry cleaners, and example prices to help you decide which option is best for you.
Self-service launderettes in Barcelona
If you’re staying in a hotel, hostel, or an apartment which doesn’t have a washing machine, the most cost-effective way of washing your clothes is to take them to a self-service launderette or laundromat.
You’ll find self-service launderettes in most Barcelona neighbourhoods, but they’re especially widespread in the more central areas, including the Gothic Quarter, El Raval and La Barceloneta.
Launderettes are called Bugaderies in Catalan or Lavanderías in Spanish, and the easiest way to find the nearest laundrette in Barcelona is to type “bugaderia a prop meu” into Google. I’ve included the addresses and opening times of several popular Barcelona laundrettes below to get you started.
Launderettes in Barcelona are fitted with industrial washing machines which can wash loads between 8kg and 30kg in approximately half an hour. Add fifteen to twenty minutes for tumble drying, and you can wash and dry all your clothes in less than an hour.
Most self-service launderettes are unstaffed, and you pay at a centralized payment point which accepts both cash and credit cards. A few more modern laundries have an app you can use to pay from your phone.
Depending on load size, it typically costs between €4 and €10 to wash up to 15kg of clothes plus €3 to €5 for tumble drying. Most launderettes provide detergent and fabric softener, which may be included in the price (see table below). If detergent isn’t included in the price, it typically costs an additional fifty cents.
Some of the laundromats listed below issue loyalty cards which will save you money if you are in Barcelona for several weeks.

Service washes in Barcelona
Some laundries in Barcelona also offer service washes, sometimes called wash and fold services, whereby you drop your clothes off in the morning and then pick them up a few hours later washed, dried and folded. Some laundries will even deliver your clothes to your hotel, so you don’t have to pick them up.
Although slightly more expensive than washing your own clothes, this can be a cost-effective way of saving time and avoiding wasting an hour of your holiday sitting in a launderette. Not to mention that your clothes come back nicely folded, ready to pack into your suitcase.

Hotel laundry service
Most Spanish hotels offer a laundry service to their residents. Although this is the most convenient way of doing your laundry while travelling, it is also the most expensive since you are charged per item.
There is typically a bag in the wardrobe accompanied by a printed form where you mark the quantity of each item which you want to be washed. You simply leave the bag of clothes on your bed, together with the completed form and the person who cleans your room will collect your dirty clothes and return them washed and pressed the next day.
Despite the cost, if you only need to wash one or two items of clothing and time is a premium, or if you’re in Barcelona on business and your company is paying, then the hotel laundry service is a very convenient option.

Doing laundry in your apartment
If you’re staying in an apartment in Barcelona, you may have the option of doing laundry “at home”.
Most apartments in Barcelona are equipped with washing machines but very few have tumble driers or washer driers. This is due to a combination of limited space, cost and the fact that most people prefer to air dry their clothes. Luckily, due to Barcelona’s mild Mediterranean climate, clothes will typically be dry within twenty-four hours or overnight during summer. Laundry hung out to dry on balconies is a common sight in Barcelona.
Having said that, most short-term apartment rentals available on sites like Booking.com and Airbnb don’t include a washing machine.
Hand washing clothes
If you only need to wash a few items, then you may be able to wash them by hand in the sink and then hang them out to dry either on the balcony or in the bathroom.
Hand washing is an especially popular choice among backpackers who travel with minimal luggage and need to wash a few items every few days.
