The monument to sportspeople of the sea (Catalan: Esportistes del Mar) by Joaquim Ros i Sabaté is one of 3 monuments commissioned by the Real Asamblea Español de Capitanes de Yate during the 1960s, all of which are located in Barcelona’s historic harbour (el Port Vell).
The rusty iron statue which represents a yacht at sea was inaugurated in 1969 and is one of the artist’s best known pieces.
About the artist:
Joaquim Ros Sabaté was born in Barcelona in 1936 and studied at the Escola de la Llotja art school. Many of his statues are on display in the streets and plazas of Barcelona, one notable exception is the monument to Salvador Dalí in Cadaques.
Location
The monument to sportspeople of the sea is located near Roy Lichtenstein’s Barcelona’s Head statue, at one end of the Moll de la Fusta wharf.

The nearest metro stop is Barceloneta on the L4 yellow line.
